Post-Race Insights: Supercross Start Device Challenges
In a recent post-race interview, a prominent competitor addressed the ongoing challenges with start devices at the Supercross series. The rider acknowledged that issues primarily stemmed from the device being set too low initially, complicating the start process. “I definitely went up with it now, but I also realized I wasn’t slamming it down hard enough initially,” he explained.
The importance of adjusting to the start device with the stiff suspensions currently in use was highlighted, as precise technique is crucial for optimal performance. “You can see the guys who know how to make it unlock,” he noted, emphasizing the significance of mastering the start amid high-stakes competition.
Further discussing race strategies, the rider recalled a pivotal moment before the main event when he sought advice from fellow competitor Seth. “I was like, ‘Dude, I’m going crazy here. You’ve got to tell me about your start technique,’” he said. Seth advised him to reduce RPMs, an adjustment which proved beneficial. “I just kind of barely get the bike into a wheelie, and we’re already halfway down,” he reflected, stressing the importance of execution during the tight start phases.
Looking ahead, the competitor is gradually transitioning to outdoor preparations, having logged several practice days on both 250cc and 450cc bikes. “I’ll probably start riding more outdoors after St. Louis,” he confirmed, indicating a calculated approach to training while managing recovery from back issues.
These remarks underscore the technical nuances of modern Supercross racing and the athlete’s adaptive strategies in pursuit of success on the track.
