Eli Tomac’s Performance at St. Louis: A Puzzling Sixth Place Finish

Eli Tomac’s recent performance in the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season continues to raise eyebrows, as he finished sixth in the St. Louis 450SX main event on Saturday night. This result marks Tomac’s third consecutive subpar finish, having previously recorded 3rd, 5th, and 6th in recent rounds, which contrasts sharply with his strong early-season form.

Despite his lackluster results, Tomac confirmed to journalist Tom Journet that he is not dealing with any injuries, stating, “Yeah, physically I’m fine. I’m good, I’m good.” However, the St. Louis track presented significant challenges, becoming increasingly technical and rough as the event progressed, likely contributing to the struggles faced by many riders.

Starting the main event from around ninth place, Tomac initially moved forward but subsequently lost positions to both Justin Cooper and Cooper Webb. Notably, Tomac’s typical defensive riding style appeared muted, raising concerns about his competitiveness at this stage of the season.

In a post-race statement, Tomac acknowledged the difficulties faced at St. Louis: “It was a tougher day for us, but the good thing is that we didn’t lose too many points and we are still tied for the lead. I’m looking forward to the last five races, and doing what we can to get back up on top.”

This recent trend of inconsistent finishes over the past three weeks is unusual for Tomac, a rider known for his resilience and adaptability. The variations in track conditions and layouts have also been notable, suggesting that these factors may be influencing his recent performances.

As the season progresses, Tomac and his team will need to analyze and adjust strategies to regain their edge and capitalize on upcoming races. The competition remains tight, with only five rounds left in the championship.
