Hangtown Highlights: Plessinger’s Near Miss and Tomac’s Late Surge
In the latest installment of the Pulp MX Show, the focus shifted to round two of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship held at Hangtown. Special guests included industry figures like Thunder Valley’s David Clabaugh and Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger, who shared insights on a hotly contested weekend.
Race Recap
For the second consecutive year, Aaron Plessinger fell just short of a moto victory at Hangtown. Leading comfortably for 30 minutes, Plessinger lost the lead to Eli Tomac of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing with just over a lap remaining. Remarkably, Plessinger, who struggled to gauge the remaining time, expressed confusion over his decision to sprint away from Tomac in the closing stages.
“I think I would have been fine if I didn’t try to sprint to get away from them,” Plessinger stated. “I don’t know what made me think we only had two laps left.”
Heat and Recovery
The sweltering conditions were a significant talking point throughout the event. Plessinger reported minor fatigue, primarily sore calves, but remained optimistic about his training regimen at Baker’s Factory.
“I was pretty hydrated going in, so I didn’t have that much of a struggle, other than just being so dang hot,” he noted.
Post-race, in a light moment, he requested someone cut the sleeves off his jersey due to the heat.
Upcoming Challenges
Despite the setback, the statistics are noteworthy: Plessinger holds the record for the most 450 MX races by a 250MX champion without a 450 moto win. He aims to change that narrative at the next event in Colorado.
As the championship progresses, all eyes will be on Plessinger as he seeks redemption and to secure his first moto victory in the 450 class.
