SMX Next – Supercross: Amateur Riders Gear Up for Anaheim 2

This weekend marks the kickoff of the SMX Next – Supercross program at Angel Stadium, where the top amateur riders will compete in their first qualifying round during the Anaheim 2 Supercross event. This inaugural round is part of a four-event qualifying series that also includes Houston, Daytona, and Birmingham, ultimately leading to the championship finale in Philadelphia.

In the SMX Next division, previously known as “SX Futures,” riders will earn points towards their professional Supercross license based on their performance in these rounds. Notably, there are no cumulative championship standings; instead, the finale will feature a winner-takes-all main event. This format means that a rider performing consistently across qualifying rounds could find themselves ranked significantly lower if they finish poorly in the finale, while a lesser-performing rider could claim the title with a strong finale finish.

A significant development preceding this event is the absence of Enzo Temmerman, who has been sidelined for the season due to a broken leg sustained during a training crash. Meanwhile, Alexander Fedortsov, the 2020 SMX Next AMA National Champion, will enter the 250SX East Division with the MX6 Racing Kawasaki team starting next month.

This weekend’s event promises to showcase the next generation of talent in the sport, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
