WMX Championship Update: Turner Leading into Final Round at Budds Creek
As the WMX Championship approaches its conclusion, Hailey Turner maintains a commanding lead with 282 points, ahead of her closest competitor, Raeven Cannon, who sits at 261 points. With only one round remaining, the title battle is tightly contested, notably with SLR Honda’s Mikayla Nielsen in third, trailing by 11 points and looking to capitalize on any mistakes from the leaders.
Nielsen, a 20-year-old from California, has distinguished herself as the only other overall winner this season. Despite facing multiple challenges, her consistency shines through, finishing in the top three in all but two motos. A recent podium appearance at Unadilla reinforces her competitive edge as the series heads to Budds Creek.
While Turner, Cannon, and Nielsen have collectively made 12 podium appearances, five distinct riders have secured top-three finishes throughout the season. Notably, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Kyleigh Stallings has shown exceptional starts, frequently leading the pack off the line. Despite a 64-point gap behind Turner, Stallings secured a spot on the podium at Ironman and remains a formidable threat.
Jordan Jarvis of ROTE Racing Yamaha, the most experienced competitor in the field, has endured a challenging summer. The 24-year-old former champion bounced back from a serious crash at Hangtown to clinch another podium at Thunder Valley. Currently, she sits 66 points adrift of the leader, poised to finish the season strongly.
The final round of the WMX Championship will take place at Budds Creek, with practice and qualifying scheduled for Friday, August 22. The championship-deciding moto is set for Saturday, August 23, at approximately 3:15 p.m. ET, live-streamed on Peacock and the SuperMotocross Video Pass.
