Alfredo on Standby for No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Team at Mexico City
In response to Alex Bowman’s recent heavy crash at Michigan International Speedway, Anthony Alfredo will be on standby for the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team during the upcoming race in Mexico City. Despite suffering back pain from a fierce head-on impact, Bowman is anticipated to compete after undergoing medical evaluation.
The incident occurred when Bowman’s vehicle collided with the outside wall in Turn 2, initiated by a sequence of collisions involving Cole Custer and Austin Cindric. Bowman described the crash as one of his hardest hits, stating, “that hurt a lot” and acknowledged it as “probably top of the board” of his hardest experiences on track.
Alfredo, who will already be in Mexico City competing in the Xfinity Series for Young’s Motorsports, has also been preparing as the primary simulator driver for Hendrick Motorsports for this weekend’s road course event.
Bowman, having missed four races earlier this season due to a fractured vertebra from a sprint car accident, expressed optimism about the race: “I’m really looking forward to racing in Mexico this weekend. It’s always special to bring our sport to new places… Our No. 48 Ally Chevy team has had speed, but we haven’t had the results to show for it lately. We’re ready to turn our luck around.”
Currently, Bowman ranks 13th in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings after a series of three consecutive finishes of 29th or worse, with his last victory occurring on the Chicago street course last season.
