Connor Zilisch Out of Texas Race Due to Back Injuries; Kyle Larson Steps In

Connor Zilisch will miss the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Texas Motor Speedway due to lower back injuries sustained in a crash at Talladega last weekend. Zilisch was leading when he was turned by Jesse Love, causing his Chevrolet to spin and collide nose-first with the inside SAFER barrier. The impact, which resulted in the car’s rear tires leaving the ground, destroyed the front end of his vehicle, prompting immediate concern regarding his condition.

Zilisch was evaluated and released from the infield care center. Initially grateful to escape without serious injury, he later expressed disappointment over not securing a win for his team. “I’m sore but more upset about not closing the deal,” Zilisch stated.

Kyle Larson will take over the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet for the Texas race. This marks Larson’s third substitute appearance of the season, adding to his resume that includes a previous victory at Texas in the Xfinity Series during 2016. Zilisch expressed gratitude for Larson’s support, stating on social media, “Thank you for stepping up for me this weekend.”

The race at Texas Motor Speedway is set for Saturday, where Larson will aim to keep the team’s momentum going in Zilisch’s absence.
