Christopher Bell Eyes Redemption at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Christopher Bell, driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, is determined to transform past disappointments into future successes as the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs continue. Despite finishing second in both 2023 and 2024 postseason races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway—races where he dominated the field—Bell remains optimistic about his chances.
In the most recent race, Bell started from the pole and led 216 laps, showcasing his and his team’s prowess. However, Bell was ultimately edged out by Kyle Larson, who regained the lead after a strategic pit stop with 57 laps to go. Although Bell mounted a fierce challenge in the closing laps, he could not secure the victory. “I definitely feel confidence and positivity every time [I think] of Vegas,” Bell said, reflecting on his strong performances despite lacking a win at the track.
The previous year also saw Bell fall victim to strategy, as a fuel mileage gamble by Joey Logano and Team Penske cost him critical points, hindering his playoff advancement. He faced further setbacks when a post-race penalty at Martinsville Speedway cleared the way for William Byron to take the final Championship 4 berth. “I don’t think the track owes us one,” Bell remarked, acknowledging the challenges while expressing faith in his team’s capability.
For the upcoming South Point 400, Bell has qualified third and is focused on capitalizing on his team’s good form. “This is the one that we have circled,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of this race in terms of both points and momentum. With a competitive intermediate package established from successful runs at Kansas and Bristol, Bell hopes to finally secure his long-awaited win at Las Vegas.
