Chase Briscoe Secures Pole Position for Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis

Chase Briscoe has maintained his perfect record in pole wins for NASCAR Cup Series crown jewel races, capturing the pole for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Briscoe clocked a lap time of 49.136 seconds at 183.165 mph, solidifying his position at the front of the field for Sunday’s race—his second appearance in this prestigious event as a native of Mitchell, Indiana.

This pole marks Briscoe’s fifth of the season and the seventh of his career, following earlier victories at both the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600. “I was super close (to crashing) in all four corners,” Briscoe remarked after his qualifying run, expressing the intensity of the moment. “I thought I was going to lose it a couple of times, but I was able to hold onto it.” He emphasized the personal significance of the pole, stating, “This is such a special moment for me… hopefully we can keep it up there tomorrow.”

Briscoe secured the pole position after Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin crashed during his qualifying lap. Despite being the fastest driver in practice, Hamlin hit the wall off Turn 2 and subsequently will start from the back of the field in a backup car. Hamlin later commented on the incident via social media, noting, “Over send.”

Bubba Wallace will start second with a lap of 183.117 mph, followed by Erik Jones in third (182.749 mph) and Tyler Reddick in fourth (182.678 mph). Ty Gibbs rounded out the top five, posting a time of 182.445 mph, contributing to a historic feat for Toyota, who achieved their first top-five qualifying sweep in the Cup Series.

Other notable qualifiers include William Byron (sixth), Chris Buescher (seventh), and Kyle Busch in twelfth, despite making wall contact during his run. Chase Elliott, the current points leader, qualified in 30th place.

The Brickyard 400 is set to commence at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
