Chris Buescher’s bid for a NASCAR Cup Series playoff spot ended in disappointment Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway. Despite a competitive performance, Buescher finished seventh, leaving him just short of securing a postseason berth.

"We said in February it was going to be a must-win, and it turns out it was," Buescher stated post-race. "Ultimately, points didn’t matter; needed a win to get in." He was the first driver below the playoff cutline, with Tyler Reddick and Alex Bowman claiming the final available spots based on points.

Buescher led the bottom lane during a thrilling conclusion, battling for the lead in a three-wide finish. As Justin Haley surged ahead off Turn 2, Buescher fell in line behind Cole Custer, who crossed the finish first in a three-wide finish behind race winner Ryan Blaney.

“I don’t know what we’d have done differently," Buescher reflected. “I’m really proud of everyone on this team. This Fifth Third Mustang was so fast tonight. Ultimately came up a little bit short."

Buescher’s crew chief, Scott Graves, emphasized that missing the playoffs does not define their season: “We’ve had a great year; it’s just that we haven’t gotten that last little bit of detail right.”

Last season, Buescher went winless during the regular schedule but later won at Watkins Glen, impacting the postseason dynamics. With the postseason now behind him, Buescher remains optimistic about future races, stating, “We’ve got a lot of good racetracks for us, so I’m excited to go put some good ones down and try to do better on the next one.”

With ten races remaining, Buescher is poised to contend for victories and resume his role as a potential spoiler in the series.
