Denny Hamlin Claims Victory at Dover Amid Christopher Bell’s Troubles

DOVER, DE – Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing secured a crucial win at Dover Motor Speedway, capitalizing on the missteps of his teammate Christopher Bell. Hamlin’s victory marked a significant achievement, particularly following a rain delay that pushed the race’s intensity to another level.

Christopher Bell initially dominated, leading 67 laps and winning Stage 2, accumulating 19 stage points. However, his race took a downturn during the final stage when he spun out while leading, eliciting a series of near misses as the field avoided collision. The #20 Toyota driver rejoined the pack at the back but demonstrated resilience, moving up the ranks significantly thanks to tactical decisions and a well-timed caution.

After the one-hour rain delay, Bell restarted on the front row alongside Hamlin. Despite a strong showing, Bell lost control and spun out again on the final stretch, effectively ending his chances for a win. "I definitely wasn’t going to lift, and I knew he wasn’t going to lift either," Bell stated post-race, acknowledging the aggressive racing environment. "Dover and spinning out — I’ve got a problem with that."

Despite finishing 18th, Bell expressed pride in the team’s performance and progress, noting, "The guys on this #20 team did a really good job bringing really good pace this weekend." Bell also highlighted the potential of clinching a playoff point, adding, "Hopefully, we can keep bringing that speed and I can be in contention more often."

Hamlin’s success was complemented by teammate Chase Briscoe’s runner-up finish, contributing to a strong 1-2 result for Joe Gibbs Racing. With this win, Hamlin showcased his ability to close out races effectively, further solidifying his prominence in the series.

In addition, Ty Gibbs advanced to the finals of the $1 million bracket challenge, facing off against Ty Dillon. The race underscored the competitive dynamics within the JGR ranks, as the team pursues continued success in the NASCAR Cup Series.
