NASCAR to Feature Podium Celebrations in Mexico City
For the first time in NASCAR history, the top division will hold podium celebrations for its race in Mexico City, marking a significant cultural shift for the series. Set to take place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the event will also see the NASCAR Xfinity Series implement podium ceremonies, a practice common in global motorsport but rarely seen in NASCAR’s traditional format.
Daniel Suarez, the only foreign-born driver to win a NASCAR title, expressed his enthusiasm for the decision. “I thought it could be a good idea… we are pretty much the only sport that does it like this,” he stated. Suarez highlighted the visual impact of the podium placement within the stadium, anticipating an audience of approximately 30,000 fans.
He noted the importance of adapting to this new tradition, acknowledging past podium events at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. “We are going to feel a little bit different… but I don’t see it as a negative,” he added.
Weekend Outlook for Daniel Suarez
Suarez is particularly motivated heading into the event, not only as the home hero but also as a contender aiming for a playoff spot. Currently winless in the 2025 season, he emphasized the significance of the unique opportunity. “Regardless of what happens on Sunday, I’m super excited for the event,” he said, stressing the need for execution throughout the weekend.
During the Mexico City race, Suarez will take on double duty, driving the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet in the Cup series and the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet in the Xfinity race.
As NASCAR embraces this podium tradition in Mexico, the series aims to enhance its global appeal while offering a memorable experience for drivers and fans alike.
