Michael Annett Passes Away at 39

Michael Annett, a former NASCAR competitor with a career spanning all three national series, has died at the age of 39. This news was confirmed by JR Motorsports, one of his former teams.

Annett’s last race in NASCAR occurred in 2021, where he made 26 starts in the Xfinity Series. Over his career, he achieved a total of 321 starts in that series, securing one victory, alongside nine starts in the Craftsman Truck Series and three full seasons in the Cup Series.

“NASCAR is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former NASCAR driver Michael Annett,” the organization stated. “His determination, professionalism, and positive spirit were felt by everyone in the garage. He represented our sport with integrity and passion.”

Hailing from Des Moines, Iowa, Annett entered the NASCAR arena in 2008, primarily competing in the Xfinity Series with teams such as Germain Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, and JR Motorsports—where he clinched his sole NASCAR national series victory.

In the Cup Series, he drove for Tommy Baldwin and Harry Scott. Annett last competed following a leg injury suffered during training, which ultimately led to his retirement from racing in 2021.
