Hamlin Prioritizes Family Ahead of Mexico Race

As Denny Hamlin prepares for the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series event at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, his focus remains firmly on family. With his fiancé, Jordan Fish, expecting their third child, Hamlin has pledged to prioritize her wellbeing over racing commitments.

“I said from the very beginning, if she hasn’t had it by the time I need to leave for Mexico, then I’m not going,” Hamlin stated on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. He emphasized the need to support Fish during this critical time, stating, “I’ll be there for her during and after. Racing will come second this week.”

The industry is set to travel to Mexico on Thursday, with on-track activities commencing Friday. In Hamlin’s potential absence, Ryan Truex, brother of former Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr., stands ready as the reserve driver.

NASCAR has confirmed that Hamlin would receive a playoff waiver for any absence due to the birth of his child, reflecting changes made to the waiver policy in the offseason governing excused absences and playoff points retention.

Hamlin and Fish are expecting a boy, who will join their two daughters, Taylor and Molly. Notably, Hamlin navigated previous race weekends, including a successful outing at Michigan, despite the looming due date of June 1.

This weekend’s race marks a historical moment for the Cup Series, being the first points-paying event held internationally since the late 1950s.
