Corey Heim Claims Intense Victory at Texas Motor Speedway
Fort Worth, TX – Corey Heim secured a hard-fought victory in the SpeedyCash.com 250 on Friday night, marking his 14th career win and third of the season. Driving the No. 11 TRICON Garage Toyota, Heim’s triumph was anything but straightforward as he navigated two overtimes at Texas Motor Speedway, notorious for its challenging layout.
Heim led a race-high 96 of 174 laps but faced significant pressure in the final moments. Following a caution during the first overtime, the restart saw Heim holding his ground against Ben Rhodes. In a dramatic sequence, as they approached Turn 3, Daniel Hemric surged into contention. However, Heim maintained composure, accelerating through traffic to reclaim the lead and finishing 0.279 seconds ahead of Hemric, while Rhodes faded to sixth place.
"I wasn’t going to let that one get away from me," Heim stated. "I’ve given up too many this year… They tried to take me three-wide into Turn 1, and I drove until I couldn’t anymore."
At just 22 years old, Heim becomes the youngest driver in series history to reach 14 wins. The race also ended a streak of 21 events that had concluded in regulation, with its 11 cautions highlighting the aggressive racing.
Rajah Caruth completed the podium in third, followed by Tyler Ankrum and Tanner Gray in fourth and fifth, respectively. Rhodes, a two-time series champion, expressed frustration over Heim’s aggressive maneuvering on the final lap, indicating the narrow racing groove at Texas contributed to the tension.
The race saw an early caution when rookie Giovanni Ruggiero misjudged a move, resulting in a multi-truck collision involving Brandon Jones and Kaden Honeycutt. Ruggiero reflected on the incident, stating, "It is just so hard to see the grass here… Definitely misjudged it on my part."
The chaotic nature of the event was underscored by multiple cautions, particularly after the second stage. A lengthy green-flag run allowed Heim to build a significant lead before a crash involving Frankie Muniz reignited the urgency.
With this victory, Heim extends his lead in the Craftsman Truck Series standings, sitting 46 points ahead of second-place Chandler Smith.
