NASCAR Cup Series: Key Incident at Sonoma Raceway
During the recent NASCAR Cup Series event at Sonoma Raceway, a significant incident occurred involving Josh Berry and Carson Hocevar. Late in the race, Berry’s No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford made contact with Hocevar’s No. 77, resulting in Hocevar spinning and ultimately finishing 32nd, while Berry crossed the line in 13th.
Berry clarified the incident, stating, “The 43 [Erik Jones] was a restart at turn seven. We were all jammed up into each other; I got clipped by the 4 [Noah Gragson] and just misjudged my braking. I was too fast coming up the hill, ran into Carson, and knocked him off track. A complete mistake on my part.”
Despite a trackside effort to reach out to Hocevar and his team, Berry reported, “I tried calling Carson on Monday and sent him a text but never heard anything back. I did talk to Luke [Lambert, crew chief for the #77] to apologize, but it’s just part of racing.”
Hocevar, who has been involved in multiple on-track altercations this season, remained unresponsive to Berry’s apologies, emphasizing that he does not see the value in post-race calls to address racing incidents.
This incident reflects the competitive tensions within the series, illustrating both the high stakes of racing dynamics and driver accountability.
