Kyle Busch Extends Tenure with Richard Childress Racing through 2026
Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has exercised a contract option to remain with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) through the 2026 season. Busch, holding a record of 63 Cup victories—the most of any current full-time driver—also leads in wins across the Xfinity and Truck Series.
After beginning his Cup career with Hendrick Motorsports in 2005 and moving to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008, Busch’s unexpected departure from Gibbs after 15 seasons marked a significant shift in his career. He joined RCR in 2023, claiming three race wins in his inaugural season. However, 2024 has seen challenges, with a winless streak nearing 70 races following the end of his 19-season winning streak.
In a Saturday press conference, Busch reflected on his time with RCR, which he described as “fun but challenging.” He expressed gratitude to team owners Richard and Judy Childress, remarking, “It’s a great place to work… we have certainly had our battles."
Busch cited areas for improvement both on the track and within the team, highlighting the competitive nature of the sport. “This sport is very, very tough, very, very close and challenging. Being able to score those wins… we know those areas in which we can improve.”
Busch’s announcement parallels that of two-time Daytona 500 winner William Byron, who has signed a four-year extension with Hendrick Motorsports, ensuring his position with the No. 24 Chevrolet through 2029.
As the NASCAR Cup Series approaches the Coca-Cola 600, both drivers will aim to solidify their standings amid the competitive landscape.
