Kyle Larson Escapes Major Crash at Plymouth Dirt Track
Kyle Larson faced a harrowing accident during a winged sprint car race at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Wisconsin, competing in the World of Outlaws series. On lap seven of the 35-lap feature race, Larson’s bid to overtake leader Rico Abreu was abruptly interrupted. A suspected rear axle failure caused Larson’s No. 57 car to flip violently before impacting the catch-fencing.
Remarkably, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion emerged from the wreck unscathed. Post-race, Larson commented, "I think the right rear axle or something broke, so it just kind of launched me. Bummer, but I felt really good pacing Rico there. Glad I’m okay; it was a big hit, but all in all, I feel fine."
Larson’s next challenge will be the 15th round of the NASCAR Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway, where he previously secured his first career Cup victory in 2016 and boasts three consecutive wins at the two-mile oval. The incident underscores the risks inherent in motorsports, while also showcasing Larson’s resilience as he transitions back to his primary duties with Hendrick Motorsports.
