Legge Eyes Return to Indy 500 After Expanding NASCAR Career
Katherine Legge, a four-time starter at the Indianapolis 500, is actively seeking a return to the prestigious race after expanding her motorsports career into NASCAR in 2025. Following her recent run with Dale Coyne Racing at the 2024 Indy 500, Legge has expressed strong ambitions to compete again at the Speedway.
Despite initial efforts earlier this year to secure a spot in the Indy 500 field, Legge was unable to finalize an entry. However, she is currently exploring new opportunities with teams and sponsors to enhance her chances for future participation. “Indy’s in your blood,” Legge stated in an interview with RACER. “I want to be able to do it and have a shot.”
Having previously competed with successful teams, Legge highlighted her potential, referencing her strong performance in 2013 with Sam Schmidt and her expectations in 2023 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. “I want to go back and have a shot with a car and a team at the right time,” she added, emphasizing her belief that timing has been a crucial factor in her past performances.
Legge’s most recent outing at the Indy 500 with Dale Coyne Racing and her partnership with cosmetics brand e.l.f., which included primary sponsorship and promotional activities at the event, significantly raised her profile and attracted additional sponsorships, leading her to NASCAR.
With her best Indianapolis 500 finish being 22nd in her debut in 2012, Legge is determined to improve her performance. She has expressed interest in participating in a doubleheader at the Phoenix International Raceway and aims to be the first driver competing in both events during the same weekend. “As long as you’re in with a shot and you feel like you’ve still got it, I want to race again at Indy,” she concluded.
Legge’s commitment to returning to the Indianapolis 500 indicates her readiness to capitalize on newfound momentum while aiming for better results at one of motorsports’ most iconic events.
