NASCAR Modifies Mexico City Weekend Schedule Due to Travel Delays
NASCAR has announced a revised schedule for the upcoming race weekend at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City following significant travel disruptions for industry members departing from Charlotte, North Carolina. The travel issues stemmed from two aircraft malfunctions, preventing multiple Xfinity Series and Cup Series teams, along with several drivers, from reaching their destination on time.
As a result, the Xfinity Series practice sessions originally slated for Friday have been rescheduled to Saturday. Cup Series practice sessions will now take place later in the afternoon on Friday, and Cup Series qualifying has also been postponed to Saturday.
Revised Schedule:
Friday:
- 11:30 AM: First NASCAR Mexico Series race
- 2:05 PM: Cup Series Practice Session 1
- 3:30 PM: Cup Series Practice Session 2
- Xfinity Series: Practice moved to Saturday
Saturday:
- 9:05 AM: Xfinity Series 50-minute practice
- 10:10 AM: Xfinity Series qualifying
- 12:05 PM: Cup Series qualifying
- 5:00 PM: Second NASCAR Mexico Series race
Mexico City operates on Mountain Time, two hours behind Eastern Standard Time.
The initial weekend agenda had planned for teams to conduct their first practice sessions on Friday, paving the way for qualifying and the Xfinity Series race on Saturday—its first event in Mexico City since 2008. Sunday marks the inaugural Cup Series event in the region.
This schedule adjustment underscores the logistical challenges motorsports teams often encounter and reflects NASCAR’s commitment to ensuring competitive readiness while accommodating unforeseen circumstances.
