Kyle Larson’s Indy 500 Wreck Precedes Coca-Cola 600 Challenge
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Kyle Larson faced a disappointing exit from the Indianapolis 500, crashing out on Lap 92 after losing control during a restart. The incident involved multiple vehicles and resulted in Larson finishing in 27th place, leaving him visibly upset as he departed the track following a difficult month.
Larson quickly turned his focus to the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’s longest race, where he will start from the outside of the front row. In a video message during his flight to Charlotte, he emphasized the need for a mental reset: “More than anything, I just need to mentally get reset at this point and try to forget about the last hour,” he stated.
Hendrick Motorsports crew chief Cliff Daniels expressed confidence in Larson’s ability to move past setbacks, citing their established working relationship. “What makes him so good is that he races so often and can turn the page quickly. After a tough race, he’s ready for the next one,” Daniels explained.
Daniels noted that Larson is adept at handling disappointment, given his diverse racing schedule, which includes competing in the World of Outlaws and other series. “He’s not a rookie at that,” he added, underscoring Larson’s experience across different types of race cars, including both IndyCar and NASCAR.
The Coca-Cola 600 marks a historic moment as the first Cup race to be broadcast exclusively on Prime Video, highlighting a significant shift in how NASCAR engages with its audience.
As Larson prepares for the race, his crew remains focused on providing the right environment for success amid the challenges posed by recent events.
