NASCAR to Return to San Diego in 2024
NASCAR will reintroduce its racing events to Southern California with a race slated for San Diego next season. Sources indicate an official announcement could be made as soon as next week.
The city, particularly Coronado, has been a hot topic in recent discussions regarding potential race locations. While specifics regarding the race’s exact venue and date remain under wraps, interest in returning to markets like Mexico City and Chicago continues. Chicago, which has hosted races in early July for the past three years, is exploring new scheduling options beyond its recently concluded three-year contract.
This marks a significant development for NASCAR, which has not hosted a points race in Southern California since 2023. Fontana, previously known as Auto Club Speedway, had been omitted from the schedule while plans to convert it into a short track were briefly entertained. However, those plans have been “paused,” as confirmed by NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps earlier this year.
The complete NASCAR schedule for 2026 is anticipated to be released by late summer or early fall, leaving fans and teams eager for further updates.
