NASCAR to Pause Chicago Street Race for 2026; Potential Return in 2027

The NASCAR Cup Series will not feature the Chicago Street Course race in 2026, after three successful years since its 2023 debut. This decision marks a strategic pause as NASCAR aims to enhance collaboration with the City of Chicago and optimize operational efficiencies. Officials have indicated the possibility of a return in 2027.

"This event has become one of the most iconic in global sports, and we are grateful for the support of fans—both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers," stated NASCAR in an official release. The organization emphasized its commitment to exploring new dates and enhancing race logistics.

The series is also considering alternative locations, including a return to Chicagoland Speedway, approximately 50 miles away. Additionally, NASCAR is exploring a new street course in San Diego.

The Chicago Street Course garnered attention for its competitive races, notably Shane van Gisbergen’s stunning win in 2023, followed by victories from Alex Bowman in 2024 and van Gisbergen again in 2025, who also secured an Xfinity Series win during that weekend. Despite occasionally adverse weather, the event received positive feedback from attendees.

As NASCAR shifts focus, the motorsports community anticipates further developments regarding future race venues.
