T.J. Puchyr to Acquire Rick Ware Racing, Expansion Planned

T.J. Puchyr, a notable figure in the NASCAR community, has reached an agreement to purchase Rick Ware Racing (RWR) with plans to expand the team to three cars by 2027, as reported by the Associated Press. Puchyr, a former co-owner of Spire Motorsports, played a pivotal role in transforming that organization into a competitive force, securing the Furniture Row Racing charter in 2018 before eventually stepping away from Spire.

As part of the acquisition deal, Cody Ware, Rick Ware’s son, is set to remain one of the drivers in the operation. Currently, RWR fields a single full-time, chartered entry, and leases another charter to RFK Racing for the No. 60 Ford in a two-year agreement. However, RWR is entangled in a lawsuit with Legacy Motor Club, which alleges that RWR reneged on a charter agreement for the 2026 season.

At present, RWR’s No. 51 Ford Mustang sits last in the NASCAR championship standings, failing to achieve a finish better than 24th in any race this season.

“I’ve won at everything I’ve done at every level, and I think we can compete with these guys,” Puchyr stated. “It’s going to take people, money, and time to build it brick-by-brick. I know we are currently the 36th-place car, but I believe we can make this a competitive organization, even a winner.”

The motorsports community will be closely monitoring how this deal evolves and its implications for the future of Rick Ware Racing.
