NASCAR Cup Series: Pocono Race Postponed Due to Weather

The NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway was initially scheduled to start at 2:20 PM EST but has been delayed due to inclement weather. As of 1:30 PM EST, a lightning hold was lifted, allowing track drying efforts to commence. NASCAR enforces a 30-minute hold for any lightning strikes within an eight-mile radius.

Historically, Pocono is susceptible to weather delays; however, this is the first instance since 2016 that a Cup race has a chance of being pushed to Monday, a race that was ultimately shortened due to fog.

Denny Hamlin secured the pole position for the race, marking his seventh win at Pocono, the highest among active drivers. He returns to action after missing the previous Cup event in Mexico City for the birth of his son, Jameson. In his last outing, he claimed victory at Michigan.

In related results, Connor Zilisch won Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity race at Pocono with Dale Earnhardt Jr. serving as interim crew chief. The Truck Series saw Layne Riggs claim victory Friday, capitalizing on misfortunes faced by Corey Heim and Carson Hocevar.

So far in 2025, NASCAR has experienced a fortunate streak, with no races pushed to Monday prior to Pocono. As weather conditions continue to evolve, the race’s future remains uncertain.
