Change in Spotter Lineup Ahead of Atlanta Race
ATLANTA, GA — As the NASCAR Cup Series prepares for the upcoming race at EchoPark Speedway, significant changes in team spotters have emerged, influencing team dynamics and strategy.
Tab Boyd, a veteran spotter with extensive experience, has joined Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) to support Christopher Bell. Boyd previously won the 2023 Daytona 500 with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. under Hyak Motorsports but was released prior to the Pocono race, allegedly following controversial remarks he made regarding the Mexico City race.
In contrast, Bell’s former spotter, Stevie Reeves, departed the team after his contract was not extended beyond the 2025 season. Reeves’ decision to leave ahead of time allowed JGR to bring in Boyd, reinforcing their commitment to optimizing Bell’s performance on track.
Matt Philpott was initially appointed to fill the void left by Reeves but has since stepped down as the lead spotter for the No. 20 Toyota. The introduction of Boyd signifies a strategic move by JGR, with the exact terms of Boyd’s contract yet to be disclosed but confirmed by team officials.
As teams adapt their strategies leading into the Atlanta race, the impact of these staffing changes will be closely monitored.
