Sebring 12 Hours: Halfway Update

As the iconic Sebring International Raceway hosts the 2026 Mobil 1 12 Hours, the Roger Penske Porsche factory team has established a commanding presence, holding the top two positions. The #7 Porsche 963 leads closely followed by the #6, with a gap of just under two seconds and a seven-second margin to third place.

Renger van der Zande, driver of the #93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06, currently in third, expressed doubts about the competitiveness of other GTP manufacturers as the race moves towards its twilight. “I think they have a lot of speed in the pocket,” he remarked, underscoring the challenges ahead. Meanwhile, Nick Yelloly made a bold move to claim third from Fred Vesti’s Action Express Cadillac during a key moment in the sixth hour.

The #31 Cadillac has faced a tumultuous race, recovering from early contact with the #6 Porsche under caution. Chris Mitchum, director of race team operations, commented on the struggle to restore the car’s competitive edge, stating, “We’re working on getting it back there,” as his team continues to push.

There have been significant challenges for BMW Team WRT, with the #25 M Hybrid V8S suffering damage after an incident involving the GTD Inception Ferrari. Marco Wittmann, caught in the crossfire, brought the car into the paddock for extensive repairs, leaving the team reliant on their #24 car, which sits seventh.

In LMP2, AO Racing’s #99 ORECA leads ahead of the #22 United Autosports entry, while Crowdstrike Racing occupies third after a near-miss incident during the fourth hour. In GTD Pro, Porsche continues to dominate, with the #77 leading and the #57 close behind.

Facing the halfway mark, 2026’s Sebring race underscores the fierce competition among manufacturers, with strategies and performance under keen scrutiny for the remaining duration.
