WEC 100 – Fuji Speedway Free Practice 2 Summary
Fuji Speedway, Japan – In a highly competitive Free Practice 2 session at the WEC 100, the #93 Peugeot 9X8 emerged as the frontrunner, clocking a best lap of 1:29.495, set by Mikkel Jensen. This time marked the fastest recorded in the event so far and ensured the Peugeot remained at the top until the end of the session.
Close behind was the #5 Porsche 963, piloted by Julien Andlauer, who achieved a lap time of 1:29.512. The #009 Aston Martin Valkyrie, driven by Marco Sorensen, followed in third with a time of 1:29.500. The reigning champions, Toyota, placed fourth with their #8 GR010, while the #35 Alpine rounded out the top five, just under four tenths off the leading pace.
A noteworthy aspect of the session was the tight competition among the top manufacturers, with seven brands securing positions in the top eight. The only exception was BMW’s #20 M Hybrid V8, which suffered rear-end damage after colliding with a billboard but managed to return to the pits for repairs, finishing the session in 13th.
In the LMGT3 category, AKKODIS ASP continued its dominance, with the #87 Lexus RC F setting the pace with a lap of 1:41.431. The #59 United Autosports McLaren, driven by Sébastien Baud, secured a second-place finish, while the sister #78 Lexus completed the top three, a couple of tenths behind. The championship-leading #92 Manthey Porsche and the #21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Notably, all of the top 11 cars in LMGT3 posted sub-1:42 lap times, indicating a highly competitive field ahead of qualifying.
Free Practice 3 is scheduled to commence tomorrow morning at 09:50 local time, with anticipation building for the ensuing sessions and qualifying rounds.
