ACO Confirms Next-Gen LMP2 Cars Set for 2028 Debut
As the 2026 European Le Mans Series season prepares to kick off in Barcelona, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) has officially announced that the next-generation LMP2 cars are scheduled to make their debut in 2028. This development signals a pivotal evolution in the endurance racing category.

Technical Specifications: The new LMP2 prototypes, powered by twin-turbo V6 Gibson engines from ORECA and Ligier, will have a target weight of 950 kg. Enhancements in safety will be emphasized through an improved survival cell design.

Tyre Supply: Goodyear will continue as the exclusive tyre supplier for the LMP2 category. The aerodynamic profile of the new vehicles is set to maintain familiar characteristics with necessary modifications for Le Mans.

Grid Placement: The new cars will secure guaranteed spots in the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series, and the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, IMSA’s confirmation regarding their inclusion in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship remains pending.
