Blake Angliss Returns to British GT at Spa-Francorchamps
Blake Angliss made an unexpected return to the British GT Championship during Round 5 at Spa-Francorchamps, stepping up from a reserve driver role at Mahiki Racing. This race marked his first British GT appearance since last season and his debut at the iconic Belgian circuit.
Mahiki Racing introduced the Ginetta G56 GT4 Evos in this event, shifting from the Lotus Emira GT4 after a challenging start to the season. The team expanded to a three-car operation for 2025, receiving direct support from Ginetta for the transition.
Angliss, originally a reserve driver, was called up to race with Steven Lake in the #69 Ginetta after last-minute adjustments to the lineup. He expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity: “I actually started off as a ‘grid girl’ and then worked various roles; now it’s great to be racing again," he said.
Despite limited practice time due to the late arrival of the car, Angliss and Lake secured a commendable sixth place in the GT4 class. Angliss acknowledged the challenge of racing at Spa for the first time after only five laps of practice: “In real life, Eau Rouge felt like going up Mount Everest."
Post-Spa, Angliss participated in the Snetterton sprint round, where he highlighted the opportunity to showcase his skills. Mahiki’s other entries have achieved podium finishes this season, but Angliss and Lake are still pursuing their first top-three result.
In the ongoing GT4 title battle, the #90 Optimum Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 continues to lead with four wins, while competitors like the #71 Century Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 Evo are also in contention. Angliss aims for a podium in the Pro-Am category, recognizing the competitive landscape: “Warren and Brown are rapid…but we’re in the mix for that third podium spot.”
As Angliss settles back into competitive racing, the focus shifts to capitalizing on upcoming opportunities while fine-tuning the new Ginetta setup.
