Dominique Bastien to Make Prototype Racing Debut at 80
Dominique Bastien, the oldest starter in 24 Hours of Le Mans history, will debut in prototype racing this year, partnering with Theo Micouris in the #74 Ligier JS P325 for Team Virage in the newly launched Prototype Cup Europe.
At 80, Bastien continues to break age barriers in motorsport. He first made headlines as the oldest competitor in Le Mans history in 2020, aged 74, and returned in 2021, finishing 13th in the GTE Am category with Proton Competition.
Following his stint in the one-make Porsche series, Bastien tested an ORECA 07-Gibson LMP2 during the European Le Mans Series Rookie Test last year, where he shared valuable insights about the experience.
“I am thrilled,” said Bastien, reflecting on his upcoming transition into prototype racing. “This is a whole new racing experience with a class operation like Team Virage, and I’m excited to renew my wonderful 11-year relationship with Creventic.”
His co-driver, 19-year-old Theo Micouris, is well-acquainted with the Ligier JS P325, having secured podium finishes, including a notable result at the Road to Le Mans event last year.
The 2026 Prototype Cup Europe season kicks off at Mugello, Italy, from March 20 to 22, 2026, marking a new chapter in prototype racing with the relaunch of the series.
