BMW M2 Racing to Make Endurance Debut at 24 Hours of Nürburgring
Munich, Germany – BMW M Motorsport’s highly anticipated M2 Racing model will make its competitive debut next month at the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, marking a critical milestone in the vehicle’s development phase.
FK Performance Motorsport will campaign the M2 Racing in the SP3T class, featuring a driver lineup of Belgian talents Ugo de Wilde and Charles Weerts, alongside seasoned German racers Jens Klingmann and Michael Bräutigam, the latter known for his extensive experience at the Nürburgring.
Björn Lellmann, head of customer racing at BMW M Motorsport, emphasized the significance of this race as a comprehensive test of the M2 Racing’s capabilities. “The intense development phase is concluding with this endurance race, where our works drivers will gather crucial data to ensure we deliver a well-prepared car to customers,” Lellmann stated.
To date, the M2 Racing has undergone an extensive testing regimen, logging over 30,000 kilometers with a 313-horsepower 4-cylinder inline turbocharged engine. This model is designed for various events, such as the NLS, TC America, 24H Series, Supercar Challenge, and BMW’s own single-make competitions.
Jens Klingmann echoed Lellmann’s sentiments, describing the upcoming Nürburgring event as a “final major dress rehearsal.” He noted the thorough preparation accomplished during testing, including simulations for diverse racing scenarios. “This is truly the final big test before production begins,” Klingmann added.
Launched in April, the base version of the BMW M2 Racing is priced at €98,000 (net) in the EU and will be available through select BMW M Motorsport dealers. As the 24-hour race approaches, the motorsport community eagerly awaits the performance of this new entry-level competitor.
