Keselowski Eyes IMSA Return with Ford LMDh Prototype
Phoenix, AZ – During a dynamic NASCAR Championship weekend at Phoenix Raceway, RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski articulated a strong interest in re-entering the IMSA series. He aims to campaign the upcoming Ford LMDh prototype in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Keselowski remarked, “Ford is building a Hypercar for 2027 that is going to compete at Le Mans, and maybe in the United States. If it competes in the United States, I’d like to own that team.” His comments suggest an ambition to align RFK Racing with Ford’s future in sports car racing.
Ford’s LMDh prototype is scheduled to debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship, with a factory team launching operations in 2027. Speculation persists that this might extend to IMSA racing, and Keselowski’s interest revives memories of Roush Racing’s historical success in North American sports car competitions.
Since its inception, Roush Racing has claimed 24 national championships and 12 manufacturers’ titles with Ford, primarily excelling in the IMSA GT Championship and the Rolex 24 At Daytona from 1985 to 1995. This legacy underscores the potential impact of an RFK Racing entry into IMSA.
Despite previous statements about IMSA expansion, this is the first indication of Keselowski’s commitment to a top-tier prototype program. He clarified his ongoing passion for NASCAR, stating, “I don’t want an off-ramp from the Cup Series… But I do want to be part of an IMSA team in that class.”
The future of Ford’s IMSA involvement remains uncertain, with plans confirmed for European competitions. Keselowski’s enthusiasm signals a keen interest in seizing any forthcoming opportunities for RFK Racing within the evolving landscape of sports car racing.
