James Calado Extends Contract with Ferrari Amidst Championship Aspirations

Ferrari has confirmed the multi-year contract extension of James Calado, the Briton who steered the Scuderia to victory in the Centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans. This renewal consolidates Calado’s position within Ferrari and quells rumors of a possible switch to another Hypercar manufacturer.

Calado expressed his satisfaction in remaining with the team, stating, “I’m delighted to remain in the Ferrari family as an official driver.” He emphasized his desire to continue competing for Ferrari, especially as the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) heads towards its conclusion in Bahrain, where he aims to secure a fourth Drivers’ Championship.

Since joining Ferrari in 2014, Calado has amassed significant accolades, including three Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ World Championships in the LMGTE Pro category in 2017, 2021, and 2022, racing alongside Alessandro Pier Guidi. Notable victories for Calado include the 2023 overall win at Le Mans in the #51 499P, two LMGTE class wins in 2019 and 2021, and a first-place finish at the 2024 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.

In total, Calado has achieved 27 wins and 62 podiums in 130 races for Ferrari. Antonello Coletta, Ferrari’s Global Head of Endurance and Corse Clienti, noted, “The contract extension represents continuity… it’s an honor to keep counting on James’s contribution.”

Calado is part of a broader strategy for Ferrari, which recently renewed contracts for drivers Alessio Rovera, Antonio Giovinazzi, and Nicklas Nielsen, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to its endurance racing ambitions.
