GT World Challenge Asia Returns to Mandalika
The GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS commences its doubleheader at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit this weekend, marking the series’ inaugural visit to the coastal venue after a postponed attempt three years ago. A robust field of 34 entries converges, making this one of the largest grids of the season.
Highlighted additions to the grid include the #18 Porsche 911 GT3 R from Porsche Center Okazaki, featuring former SRO Japan Cup Champion Hiroaki Nagai alongside Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Kazuto Kotaka. Additionally, Absolute Corse fields a new entry with the #19 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, driven by Squadra Corse factory driver Edoardo Mortara and Indonesian Bronze driver Andrea Anatra.
Returning entries comprise the #98 Ferrari 296 GT3, with DTM podium finisher Theirry Vermeulen and Anderson Tanoto in the cockpit. Notably, Giancarlo Fisichella makes his GT World Challenge Asia debut in the #60 LM Corsa Ferrari 296 GT3, partnering with Shigekazu Wakisaka in a Pro-Am entry. Both are set to compete in the upcoming 49th annual Suzuka 1000km in September.
Other notable driver changes include Alexander Sims’ return to Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports, replacing Ben Green in the #99 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R. Several Porsche customer teams have also made adjustments, with Alessio Picariello taking over the #4 Origine Motorsport GT3 R and Harry King stepping in for Patrick Pilet in the #911 Absolute Racing GT3 R.
With anticipation high, the event promises to deliver intense competition as teams capitalize on the uniquely challenging Mandalika circuit.
