BMW Unveils M Hybrid V8 Prototype at Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – BMW has officially unveiled its redesigned M Hybrid V8 prototype at the Daytona International Speedway, ready for its first test in the IMSA environment ahead of the upcoming racing season.

The M Hybrid V8 features significant visual updates, including a newly streamlined kidney grille and redesigned headlights that enhance the prototype’s aerodynamic properties and visibility. “The new design not only looks spectacular but is intended to further optimize performance,” stated Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport. “We will work hard on this during the test at Daytona and the Roar in January.”

Achim Klein, BMW M Motorsport Project Lead, clarified the updates are primarily aerodynamic. “Officially, it’s just an aerodynamic update with visual styling,” Klein noted. He highlighted that the overall front split has been altered to enhance the car’s behavior, crucial for improving performance in a Balance of Performance (BOP) championship context.

The team aims to leverage these modifications to explore new technical directions that can yield competitive advantages. “With this step, we’re trying to open up new setup and performance avenues,” Klein added.

This IMSA Sanctioned Test marks a pivotal moment for BMW M Team WRT, as it races for the first time under the IMSA GTP contract, previously held by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. While members from RLL are assisting during the test, BMW’s new structure in Charlotte is set to be operational by the Roar Before The 24 event.

The updates for the M Hybrid V8 are pending official homologation, signifying essential technical developments as the team prepares for the 24-hour race at the end of January.

Key Quotes:
