AF Corse USA Unveils Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FL — AF Corse USA has officially launched the Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO at Daytona International Speedway, gearing up for its inaugural runs during the IMSA Sanctioned Test this weekend.

The 296 GT3 EVO, unveiled in June, incorporates significant advancements highlighted by Alessandra Todeschini in August. Key modifications include a redesigned swan-neck rear wing, updated door mirrors, enhanced aerodynamic elements, a suspension overhaul, and improved brake cooling systems.

Test Drivers and Performance Insights

Simon Mann, a seasoned AF Corse driver in the FIA World Endurance Championship, and Tomasso Mosca, a two-time Italian GT Endurance Champion, will pilot the updated model during testing. Notable for its absence is Alessio Rovera, a Ferrari factory driver who has been instrumental in the extensive testing regime of the 296 GT3 EVO. Rovera described the testing as “an intense year” and expressed confidence in the car’s upgrades.

Rovera emphasized the advantages of the EVO over its predecessor, stating, “We know there were some aspects where we could gain time, and I think it will be a big upgrade.” He noted the improved aerodynamic performance, particularly in the ability to manage “aero wash” when trailing other cars, a common issue in competitive racing.

Mechanical Enhancements for Competitive Edge

The 296 GT3 EVO not only aims to provide enhanced downforce but also focuses on improving raceability — a critical factor for drivers, especially in multi-class settings. “There should be also a bit more mechanical grip, which helps a lot the amateurs, especially in tyre degradation,” Rovera commented.

The updated car is expected to aid not just professional drivers but also amateur racers, enhancing their experience and competitiveness in sprint races, particularly in the GT World Challenge series.

As teams prepare for the test sessions, the performance of the Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO will be closely monitored, with expectations set for significant improvements in lap times and overall race strategies.

Conclusion

The 296 GT3 EVO represents Ferrari’s commitment to evolving their championship-winning platforms, ensuring that both elite and amateur drivers can maximize their potential on the track. Observers will be eager to see how these developments impact performance as the IMSA season progresses.
