2025 GT Racing Season Summary: Dominance and Notable Performances

The 2025 GT racing season showcased a compelling mix of competitiveness and consistency across various championships, underscored by the maturation of newer GT3 cars and strong performances from top teams.

In IMSA‘s GTD PRO category, Corvette Racing clinched the championship, with drivers Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, alongside Daniel Juncadella, sealing their title by scoring a single win at VIR and achieving five podium finishes in the #3 Z06 GT3.R. Notably, the fight was tight, with Ford Multimatic Motorsports earning a win at the Rolex 24 and DragonSpeed narrowly missing the championship with their Risi Competizione-supported Ferrari 296 GT3.

Winward Racing excelled in GTD, overcoming initial challenges with the Mercedes-AMG GT3, including torque sensor integration. Their season highlights included victories at Sebring, Laguna Seca, and VIR, securing a second consecutive title.

In SRO Competition, Random Vandals Racing dominated the Pro class of the World Challenge America with five race victories, while Team WRT showcased their prowess in GT World Challenge Europe, winning the overall title and four of five Intercontinental GT Challenge races. The exception was the Spa 24 Hours, clinched by Grasser Racing, marking a remarkable farewell to the Lamborghini Huracán GT3.

In British GT3, 2 Seas Motorsport triumphed with Mercedes, while Origine Motorsport achieved a second consecutive title in the GT World Challenge Asia following a dramatic season finale. In the Asian scene, TGR Team TOM’S achieved a remarkable feat, winning its fourth GT500 title in five years in SUPER GT, further solidifying its historical dominance.

Team of the Year: Manthey

Manthey Racing emerged as the standout team of 2025, claiming victory in the LMGT3 class at Le Mans for the second year in a row and securing FIA WEC class titles. The team’s season also included achievements in DTM and the Asian Le Mans Series, evidenced by Ayhancan Güven’s last-minute claim to the DTM Drivers’ title.

After a challenging start to the WEC season, Manthey’s #92 Porsche, driven by Richard Lietz, Riccardo Pera, and Ryan Hardwick, rebounded with wins at Imola and Le Mans, consistently scoring points to remain at the top of the standings. Despite various challenges across the grid, Manthey’s ability to maintain strong performances positioned them as a benchmark team in the current era of GT racing.

The only disappointment came at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, where a time penalty relegated the ‘Grello’ Porsche, originally crossing the finish line first, to second place.

As Manthey prepares for its transition into the IMSA series in 2026, expectations remain high for continued excellence.

This season’s results prominently reflect the growing competitiveness and technical advancements across various series, succinctly capturing the ongoing evolution within the motorsports landscape.
