Écurie Écosse Returns to Competitive Racing for Le Mans Anniversary

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – Écurie Écosse, the legendary Scottish motorsport team that claimed victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1956, is set to make a competitive return in the 2026 season, marking the 70th anniversary of its first overall win. The team plans to participate in the 2025/2026 Asian Le Mans Series with a full-season GT3 entry featuring an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 under the Écurie Écosse Blackthorn banner.

This initiative is facilitated through the collaboration of Jonny Adam, a Le Mans GTE Pro class winner, who introduced team owners Hugh and Alasdair McCaig to Claude Bovet, owner of Blackthorn. Adam will compete as the professional driver, while Giacomo Petrobelli will serve as the mandatory Bronze-ranked driver and Kobe Pauwels will round out the trio as a Silver-rated driver.

This marks Écurie Écosse’s inaugural entry in the Asian Le Mans Series, with Blackthorn returning after a competitive GT3 effort last season. The car will sport a livery inspired by the storied history of Écurie Écosse and will also promote the Race for Dementia charity, an initiative by Sir Jackie Stewart, who drove for the team in its early years.

In addition to aspirations in the Asian series, Écurie Écosse plans to seek entry into the 2026 European Le Mans Series in the LMGT3 category. Blackthorn is also poised to announce a second entry for the four Asian LMS races in the UAE in February.

Legacy and Heritage

Founded in 1952, Écurie Écosse earned historic acclaim through consecutive Le Mans victories in 1956 and 1957 with their iconic Jaguar D-Types. The team’s reputation was further solidified by a C2 class World Championship title in 1986 and a remarkable return to international racing from 2011, securing notable successes in various series including the British GT Championship and the UK LMP3 Championship.

Alasdair McCaig, the current team director, expressed pride in leading a team with such an illustrious legacy: “We’re excited to enter this next chapter, building on the legacy while embracing new opportunities in modern motorsport.”

As they head into the 2026 season, Écurie Écosse remains committed to excellence in performance and competitive integrity, continuing its storied tradition in the motorsports arena.
