Ferrari to Strengthen Pro-Am Hypercar Class for Asian Le Mans Series
Ferrari has confirmed its participation in the inaugural Pro-Am Hypercar class for the 2026/2027 Asian Le Mans Series, bringing renewed optimism to the category. Antonello Coletta, Head of Corse Clienti, stated, “I am sure that we will be in the Asian Le Mans Series. We have fantastic customers who are eager to drive the 499P.”
While Ferrari’s involvement is a significant boost, Coletta emphasized the need for clarity in the class regulations, particularly regarding the cost implications of the Hypercar performance management systems. “We need to put maximum attention into the rules, particularly concerning driver categorization,” he asserted.
Ferrari is reportedly planning a program that may include up to three of the full-season World Endurance Championship (WEC) cars. Current customer drivers from Ferrari/AF Corse are being approached to join this venture.
Peugeot also expressed interest, with Bob Berridge’s BBM Sport looking to field one or two ex-factory Peugeot 9X8s. Additionally, other teams, including potential entrants from Porsche, are exploring opportunities within this emerging class.
As the Asian Le Mans Series gears up for its inaugural season, the landscape of the Pro-Am Hypercar class is beginning to take shape, with Ferrari and Peugeot at the forefront of development efforts. Further details on regulations and class structure are eagerly anticipated from series officials.
