Ferrari Sweeps Hyperpole at Spa-Francorchamps, Securing Top Three Spots for 6 Hours of Spa
Ferrari demonstrated remarkable prowess in the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season as its trio of AF Corse-run 499Ps dominated Hyperpole qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps. Antonio Fuoco clocked the fastest time of the shootout with a stunning lap of 1:59.617, marking the quickest pole position in the Hypercar era at Spa, outpacing his teammates by 0.347 seconds.
Fuoco, reflecting on his performance after a challenging earlier round in Imola, stated, “Overall, I think it’s been a positive weekend so far. We are just really happy, and the focus is now on the job tomorrow in the race.”
Robert Kubica secured second place with a time of 1:59.964 for the #83 crew, while Antonio Giovinazzi completed the all-Ferrari front row for the championship-leading #51.
In an encouraging performance for Peugeot, Stoffel Vandoorne set a competitive time of 2:00.218, positioning the #94 9X8 fourth. Cadillac’s Alex Lynn took fifth, emphasizing the significance of both Cadillacs making it to Hyperpole: “P5 on the grid is a solid place to start tomorrow, and we’ve improved the car a lot over the weekend.”
The remaining top-ten positions included the #36 Alpine, #93 Peugeot, #20 BMW, #35 Alpine, and #38 Cadillac. However, both Toyota and Porsche faced difficulties, failing to secure spots in Hyperpole. The two Penske-run Porsche 963s will start from 12th and 13th, while the Toyotas will begin 15th and 16th after facing a challenging session, including an off-track incident for the #6 Porsche.
In the LMGT3 category, Lexus and AKKODIS ASP achieved their first pole position in FIA WEC, with Finn Gehrsitz recording a 2:17.732 in the #78 RC F LMGT3. The competition for second was intense, but Eduardo Barrichello of Racing Spirit of Leman clinched it, pushing Ben Tuck’s #77 Ford Mustang to third.
The rest of the top ten in LMGT3 comprised Giammarco Levorato, Zach Robichon, and the #21 Ferrari, with TF Sport’s championship-leading #33 Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R struggling down in 17th after a disappointing qualifying session. Co-driver Daniel Juncadella expressed concerns about the car’s pace, stating, “Unfortunately, the pace has been a little bit off all weekend.”
The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is set to commence at 14:00 local time tomorrow.
