LMGT3 Championship Update: Teammates Prepare for Spa Before Le Mans
As the LMGT3 championship heats up, teams are poised for the crucial Spa round ahead of the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours. Following a season opener victory for TF Sport’s #33 Corvette in Qatar, the trio of Jonny Edgar, Daniel Juncadella, and Ben Keating faced challenges at Imola, where they struggled to maintain their pace. The team is keen to regain championship momentum despite carrying 36 kg of success ballast.
TF Sport aims to consolidate their points lead, especially with their #81 sister car having finished sixth after retiring in Round 1. Team engineers are working diligently to address the Balance of Performance (BoP) issues that affected both cars in Italy.
The competition remains fierce, notably from AKKODIS ASP and their Lexus RC F LMGT3s. Finn Gehrsiz and Arnold Robin are second in the standings after a strong podium performance. They will look to continue this momentum at Spa, although they will have to adapt to a rotating third teammate, Yuichi Nakayama, alongside Michael Krumm.
Porsche’s Manthey 1st Phorm team aims for consecutive wins, having triumphed at Imola thanks to solid runs from Ryan Hardwick, Richard Lietz, and Riccardo Pera. In contrast, the Iron Dames seek their first top-five finish of the season.
United Autosports’ #95 McLaren has yet to secure a standout performance, with points finishes of seventh and ninth failing to showcase the car’s potential. Similarly, Team WRT, competing on home soil, hopes to capitalize on its experience after a challenging outing at Imola marred by collision incidents.
Aston Martin’s Heart of Racing team faces a rebuild after a severe crash in Italy, bringing a new Vantage chassis to Spa. They are motivated to capitalize on their last season’s successes. Meanwhile, Mercedes-AMG and Ford also appear competitive. Iron Lynx looks to build off impressive ELMS showings with a newly adjusted lineup, while Proton Competition is eager to demonstrate the Mustang GT3’s potential after recent developments.
The Spa event is set to begin on Saturday at 14:00 local time, and teams are strategizing to position themselves favorably ahead of the prestigious Le Mans race.
