Ford Announces Major Steps for 2027 WEC Hypercar Return at Le Mans
Le Mans, France – In a pivotal announcement at the 24 Hours of Le Mans today, Ford Motor Company confirmed significant developments regarding its upcoming return to top-tier prototype sports car racing in 2027. The American automaker has selected ORECA as its chassis partner for its Hypercar program, marking a strategic move in Ford’s competitive resurgence in endurance racing.
Ford’s new WEC Hypercar program manager, Dan Sayers, will spearhead the initiative. Sayers, a veteran with extensive experience at Red Bull Ford Powertrains and Aston Martin Racing, is poised to leverage his strong technical background to lead Ford’s ambitions.
"Bringing Ford back to the top class at Le Mans has always been a dream," explained Ford President and CEO Jim Farley. "We are coming back to win, and that’s no secret."
The partnership with ORECA aligns Ford alongside established manufacturers such as Acura, Alpine, and Genesis, all of which utilize ORECA’s chassis as mandated by LMDh regulations. Ford’s vehicle is expected to debut at the 95th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled for June 2027.
Hugues de Chaunac, President of the ORECA Group, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "This strategic partnership is a key part of our ongoing commitment to the highest level of racing."
Sayers emphasized the significance of this project, noting his excitement in returning to Le Mans: "Leading Ford back to its spiritual home at Le Mans was a challenge I could not turn down."
The development solidifies Ford’s foundation in its LMDh/Hypercar program, as emphasized by Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance: “ORECA and Dan Sayers give us the right platform to build this entire program.”
With the right team in place, Ford positions itself to become a formidable contender in the upcoming endurance racing landscape.
