Maserati is set to field at least four MC20 GT2s in the upcoming 2026 GT2 European Series, coinciding with the centenary of its inaugural race at the 1926 Targa Florio.
Driver Insights and Team Entries
Returning to LP Racing, two-time Am drivers’ champion Philippe Prette aims for a third consecutive title after dominating last season with ten wins out of twelve races and achieving ten pole positions. LP Racing will also introduce a new Pro-Am entry featuring rookies Niccolò Pirri and Thomas Yu Lee. Seventeen-year-old Pirri makes the leap from Formula 4, while Lee transitions from Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia.
Dinamic Motorsport will maintain its successful pairing of Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini, who finished third in the Pro-Am standings last season with two wins and six podiums. Belgian team i4Race will make its GT2 debut with driver Antoine Potty, who previously competed in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. The identity of his co-driver is yet to be disclosed.
Series Growth and Future Outlook
The 2026 season anticipates notable growth, with the current grid already matching last year’s total of eight cars. Alongside Maserati, the grid will include confirmed two-car efforts from Team CMR and SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm. According to Vincent Biard, Head of Maserati Corse, the GT2 program signifies Maserati’s commitment to competitive racing, emphasizing a blend of elegance and performance. “If we could win the title in our centenary year, it would be fantastic,” he stated.
The season opener is scheduled for May 29-31, 2026, at Monza, Italy. With the grid expanding, Maserati aims to reinforce its presence in the motorsport arena.
