Marta García: Rising Star of the Iron Dames as GT Racing Career Gathers Momentum
Marta García, the 25-year-old driver for the Iron Dames team, is experiencing a resurgence in her motorsports career following a significant victory in the Le Mans Cup at Silverstone, marking her first triumph in GT racing after a challenging year.
After clinching the inaugural F1 Academy title in 2023, García faced difficulties transitioning into Formula Regional and enduring a rocky start in GT3 this season. Reflecting on her experiences in single-seaters, she remarked, “It wasn’t obvious what was next for me… there should be additional help for the drivers who achieve the best results.”
García’s switch from Formula Regional to the Porsche 911 LMGT3.R in the Le Mans Cup proved challenging. Her race debut was marred by a severe crash in Barcelona, where a collision resulted in a 21G impact. “It was one of the toughest moments in my career, but I got through it,” said García, emphasizing her resilience and focus on recovery.
Despite setbacks—including a teammate’s illness that temporarily sidelined their car—García has shown improvement, culminating in a podium at Spa. The Iron Dames program has played a pivotal role in her development, offering mentorship from experienced drivers like Vanina Ickx and Rahel Frey. “Vanina is like my racing mum… we all want to help each other get better every day,” García noted.
Looking ahead, García aspires to broaden her racing horizons, keeping an open mind about potential opportunities in endurance racing and possibly transitioning to LMP cars in the future. “I want to think this is the start of my endurance career,” she concluded, as she remains focused on building a sustainable path in motorsport.
As García approaches the end of the season, she is optimistic for what lies ahead and ready to showcase her talent on a larger stage.
