Genesis Magma Racing Unveils GMR-001 Livery for FIA WEC Debut
Genesis Magma Racing has officially revealed the striking livery for its #17 GMR-001 Hypercar, set to debut at the FIA World Endurance Championship’s season opener, the 6 Hours of Imola, on April 17-19, 2026.
The ORECA-based GMR-001, powered by a 3.2-liter turbo V8 engine, adorns a design that celebrates Korean heritage, prominently featuring “Magma” in traditional Hangeul lettering against a black backdrop with orange accents. This identity reflects the team’s commitment to both performance and cultural representation.
President and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, Luc Donckerwolke, stated, “Our design philosophy of ‘athletic elegance’ respects the GMR-001’s aerodynamic details while incorporating elements from our heritage. The Hangeul script became a strong graphic identifier for our team.”
The vehicle will be driven by a lineup including André Lotterer, Pipo Derani, and Mathys Jaubert, with a second entry, the #19 GMR-001, featuring Paul-Loup Chatin, Mathieu Jaminet, and Daniel Juncadella, led by reserve driver Jamie Chadwick.
In preparation for this debut, the GMR-001 has undergone a rigorous testing regime, accumulating nearly 25,000 kilometers on various tracks including Circuit Paul Ricard and Portimão. Chief Engineer Justin Taylor noted, “We’ve set high mileage targets, and while we met most of them, the real goal is consistent, reliable performance. This season, we’re focused on finishing races cleanly before aiming for competitive standings.”
The GMR-001 is poised not only to represent Genesis in the Hypercar class but also to set a benchmark for future endeavors in endurance racing. Full details on the team’s progress and performance will be monitored closely as the WEC season unfolds.
