Gibson GK428 Engine Hits Six Million Kilometers at Rolex 24

At the recent Rolex 24 at Daytona, Gibson Technology celebrated a significant achievement as its GK428 LMP2 engine surpassed six million kilometers of competition mileage. This 4.2-liter V8 engine has exclusively powered the LMP2 category since the introduction of current regulations in 2017, making its competitive debut at the same event.

The GK428 has participated in over 200 races, demonstrating its reliability and performance across multiple series, including the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series, and IMSA SportsCar Championship, as well as the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Currently, it powers more than 40 cars on the track.

However, the GK428’s reign is nearing its end as a new twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 engine, developed in collaboration with Nismo, is set to take its place when new LMP2 regulations are introduced in 2028.

Mark Brittan, Managing Director of Gibson Technology, remarked, “Reaching six million kilometers is a fantastic achievement for our GK428 engine… a testament to the professionalism and skill of the entire Gibson Technology team.” This milestone underscores the dedication of the team involved, from design engineers to technicians.

As the motorsports world watches, the industry prepares for a transition as Gibson’s legacy continues to evolve.
