Gibson Technology Honors John Manchester on His Retirement After 45 Years
Gibson Technology bid farewell to Advisory Director John Manchester, who officially retired after a notable 45-year career. Manchester’s contributions have been pivotal in shaping the company’s trajectory from its origins with Alan Smith Racing in 1979 to its current standing in motorsports.
Manchester began as an engine technician and ascended through various key roles, including Production Manager, Engineering Manager, Operations Director, and ultimately Advisory Director. Over his tenure, he played a crucial role in developing innovative technologies, notably the hybrid systems in the Panoz Q9 and LMP2 chassis and engines.
“John has had an enormous and lasting impact on the company,” the statement from Gibson read, highlighting his technical expertise and leadership. His influence extended beyond the company; Manchester was integral to the Group C engine management that aided Jaguar’s victories at Le Mans and in the World Sportscar Championship.
In addition to his achievements in prototype racing, Manchester’s work has encompassed single-seater engines across various series, including F3000, A1 GP, and Formula Renault 3.5. His deep understanding of engineering principles has established him as a respected figure in the motorsports community.
