Great Wall Motors Explores GT3 Racing Opportunities

Shanghai, China — During the recent Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix weekend, Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motors, stirred interest in the motorsports community with remarks about potential new racing initiatives. His statements, shared on social media, hinted at the company’s growing engagement with motorsport.

Wei was present at the F1 event, where he not only attended but actively interacted with the festivities. He also visited the China GT pre-season test, where he experienced riding as a passenger in a GT3 race car with the Phantom Global Racing team.

Potential Development of a GT3 Model

In a video released through his social media channels, Wei suggested that Great Wall Motors is contemplating the development of a GT3 race car or possibly launching a dedicated racing model tailored for a broader market. While these insights signal an interest in competitive motorsport, no official program has been confirmed as of now.

Great Wall Motors has responded to inquiries from BEC Motorsports, emphasizing that any specifics related to new racing programs or vehicle models will be disclosed through formal statements in the future.

The automotive and motorsport sectors in China are closely monitoring these developments, which could signify a strategic shift for one of the country’s prominent automotive players.
