Greystone GT Claims Victory at 6H of Portimão
Portimão, Portugal – Greystone GT secured a commanding overall victory at the second running of Gedlich Racing’s 6H of Portimão, part of the GT Winter Series. The team, represented by drivers Zac Meakin, Jayden Kelly, and Louis Prette, triumphed in their McLaren GT3 Evo, completing a total of 170 laps in a race characterized by variable weather conditions.
Eighteen cars competed at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, with eight in the competitive GT3 class. Qualifying saw Greystone GT earn pole position with an impressive average time of 1:59.812. The #28 Motopark Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, featuring Marcelo Ramírez and Christian Mansell, claimed second, while Iron Lynx’s trio of Ameerh Naran, Sergio Sette Camara, and Shawn Rashid secured third.
The race began under improving conditions after overnight rain, with tyre choice playing a critical role. Early leaders, Meakin and Kelly, established a significant gap. However, Ariel Levi, in his GT3 debut with Attempto Racing, quickly ascended to second, displaying competitive pace but ultimately trailing the leaders.
Key battles unfolded throughout different classes, particularly in the Cup 2 category, where team founder Leandro Martins held off Daniel Neumann for the lead. On-track challenges continued, including a Safety Car deployment necessitated by debris on the circuit from an LMR Porsche.
Strategic pit stops became crucial amid the 35-minute mandatory pit stop requirement. Greystone GT benefitted from effective timing post-Safety Car, maintaining their lead while others faced challenges in the changing conditions. By the final hour, Meakin rejoined the track with a comfortable margin, despite struggling with grip.
As rain returned in the closing stages, Meakin maintained composure to secure the win. Ferrer was second in the #108 Iron Lynx Mercedes, followed by Team Motopark’s Mansell and Ramírez in third.
In class results, LMR’s #911 Porsche excelled for a Cup 2 win and a seventh-place overall finish, while SR Motorsport triumphed in both the GT4 and GT2 classes. Greystone GT also achieved a class win in Cup 3 with drivers Josh Mason, Hugo Bac, and Michael O’Brien.
The series now shifts focus to Valencia for the next rounds of both the GT and GT4 Winter Series.
